ELT Registration
Each 406 MHz ELT contains an unique identification code that is transmitted to the satellite. The unique identification code relates in a database at Search and Rescue Centers to
Owner's Name, Address, Emergency Contact Phone Number, Aircraft Type, Aircraft Registration Number
A new or a used 406 MHz beacon MUST be registered by law with local authorities (NOAA in the USA).
If a previously registered 406 MHz beacon is moved to a different aircraft, the ELT must be re-registered. The owner / operator of the aircraft is responsible for registering or re-registering the ELT with the relevant Cospas/Sarsat point of contact according to the country code programmed into the ELT.
The online registration capability is a significant advantage to beacon owners.
Beacon owners now have the possibility to register or update their registration information online. instead of faxing or mailing the registration forms. However, it is important to note, however, that the registration is valid for only two years and re-registering the beacon every two years is mandatory to maintain up-to-date records on the contact information.
Should registering a beacon via the internet is not possible, please follow this link to beacon registration forms on this website and either mail or fax it in the country specific point of contact.
Important: NOAA's beacon registration database only accepts registration applications to include the country codes of: Alaska (303), Hawaii (338), Puerto Rico (358), US Virgin Islands (379), Northern Marianas Isands (536), American Samoa (559), and the contiguous United States (366, 367, 368, & 369). If a beacon is not coded for these areas, it cannot be registered with NOAA.
